Washing Instructions for DougDoug T-Shirts and Hoodies
Step 1: Turn Everything Inside Out
This simple step protects the front-facing print from friction with other clothes. It also prevents lint from clinging to the outside. Pro tip: also close all zippers and buttons.
Step 2: Choose Cold Water and a Gentle Cycle
Cold water preserves dye and prevents shrinking. Set your machine to a gentle or delicate cycle - normal cycles agitate too aggressively, especially for hoodies. I use cold water for 100% of my DougDoug merch, and every shirt still fits perfectly after dozens of washes.
Step 3: Use a Mild Detergent
Avoid bleach, optical brighteners, or heavy enzymes. Look for a detergent labeled "for dark colors" or "gentle on prints." I recommend Tide Free & Gentle or any plant-based brand. Use half the recommended amount for a typical load - excess soap leaves residue that dulls colors.
Step 4: Skip Fabric Softener and Dryer Sheets
Fabric softener weakens cotton fibers and leaves a waxy film that makes prints peel faster. Instead, add half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to soften naturally. The vinegar smell disappears after drying.
Step 5: Wash with Like Colors
Keep dark DougDoug hoodies with other darks, and light colors with lights. This prevents color transfer - especially important for the bright green or pink accents on some designs.
